Description
Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was started in Lund 30 years ago. About 15 years ago, we became aware of opportunities for securing IP-value and for potentially generating spin-out companies. We will first give a general intro-duction to how this happened, first via the formation of an IP-holding company, called QuNano AB, and later with the spinning out of Glo AB, for LED applications, and of Sol Voltaics AB, for solar cell applications, and even more recently of Hexagem AB for high-quality GaN and InGaN wafer production. After this general semi-historic survey, Erik Smith the CEO of Sol Voltaics AB, will give an overview of the world market for photovoltaics and describe how the company has developed the nanowire technology towards full scale commercialization, including its move into the former MAX-laboratory where it will begin producing sample product for customers. The value of the symbiotic links between NanoLund and Sol Voltaics will be high-lighted as well as the excellent supply of highly trained undergraduates and PhDs from Lund University.
