About half of the neutrinos entering a light-year long block of lead will pass through the block unaffected. Still, neutrinos sometimes do interact with matter. What happens then? How do we observe their interactions? Why does the existence of neutron mass imply that the Standard Model of particle physics needs to be revisited? What can be the source of the 290 TeV high energy neutrinos detected in the one cubic kilometer large neutrino telescope IceCube in the Antarctic ice? These are questions and topics covered by the speakers in this year’s Källén symposium.
The Källén Committee under the auspices of the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund regularly arranges symposia held to the memory of Gunnar Källén, where scientists that are leaders in their field hold presentations aimed for a general audience interested in physics and astronomy. This year the topic of the symposium is neutrino physics with the following speakers

Prof Concha Gonzalez-Garcia (University of Barcelona & Stony Brook University)
Prof Francis Halzen (University of Wisconsin)
The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion about the future of neutrino physics, including the prospects of pinning down the value of the neutrino mass, where also Prof Olga Botner (Uppsala) and Prof Colin Carlile (Lund) will participate.
