Description

Pollinator decline and expanding habitats of disease vectors in a changing climate. We know the buzzwords and the strategic focus areas of Lund University. But how could we hope to get even a glimpse of the whole picture of insect ecology and dynamics in the landscape without years of work with hordes of biologist, rubber boots, nets and microscopic identification?

What if we could instantly interrogate the landscape with a laser beam for insects? What would be the limit of detection range? Could we make insects return a collimated laser beam over far distances? How could be verify such phenomena? What information and what microscopic features could the capture of such laser flash carry? How could we accomplish such flashes from rough surfaces?

These are the research questions in my newly started project by the European Research Council.

Most welcome, Mikkel
