Description
Combustion stands for more than 80% of the global energy conversion where the main part of this comes from using fossil fuels. Clearly, from a sustainability and environmental perspective it is not possible to continue to use these kinds of fuels. To compensate for this necessary cut down of fossil fuels, alternative fuels are desperately needed. There are thus intensive research of developing/understanding combustion processes using CO2 neutral fuels, e.g. hydrogen, biomass or ammonia.
An alternative, not yet investigated so much, are using metal fuels, e.g. Iron or Alumina. The current presentation will show some of the advantages and challenges with these alternative fuels and how LTH and the Division of Combustion Physics are involved in these activities. Also some preliminary results from this research, just started, are presented.
