Description
Recently the Planck science team released data from ESA’s Planck satellite, including the most detailed map of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Overall, the information extracted from Planck’s new map provides an excellent confirmation of the standard model of cosmology at an unprecedented accuracy, setting a new benchmark in our manifest of the contents of the Universe. But, Planck has also revealed anomalies in the cosmic microwave background. I'll discuss the importance of the Planck discoveries for the fundamental physics and possible origin of these anomalies. My talk is based on the following papers: arXiv:1303.5082,"Planck 2013 results. XXII. Constraints on inflation", arXiv:1303.5083,"Planck 2013 results. XXIII. Isotropy and Statistics of the CMB ", arXiv:1303.5084,"Planck 2013 Results. XXIV.Constraints on primordial non-Gaussianity" arXiv:1303.5085,"Planck 2013 results. XXV. Searches for cosmic strings and other topological defects", arXiv:1303.5086, "Planck 2013 results. XXVI. Background geometry and topology of the Universe".
