Abstract: The European Spallation Source is currently under construction in Lund, and will be a world-class neutron facility. Neutron scattering can be applied to a range of scientific questions, spanning the realms of physics, chemistry, geology, biology and medicine. In fundamental physics, the Standard Model of particle physics has successfully provided our framework for explaining phenomena involving three of the four known forces of nature. However, there are many reasons to believe that the Standard Model is not the complete theory, and searches for phenomena beyond the Standard Model are underway e.g. at the high energy frontier at the Large Hadron Collider. Besides the energy frontier, there exists another frontier in the search for what is called the new Standard Model: the high precision, high sensitivity frontier. ESS provide new possibilities for fundamental neutron physics experiments, and I will discuss options and ideas to investigate fundamental phenomena with superior sensitivity to previous experiments.
