== News

There were some problems with packages for nightlies, but all is fixed. Python-arc conflict with arc.conf is yet to be solved. Anders killed a lot of ancient code and nightlies for older releases, made space for ARC 5.4. Branches for 5.1 and SSH-LRMS builds can also be removed, Anders will ask Martin. David hacked unit tests, which actually discovered a bug. Maiken spoke to Radovan about nightlies on gitlab, should be ready by the end of September; preparing the proposed workflow for Gitlab at https://source.coderefinery.org/nordugrid/arc/wikis/git-workflow . There will be NDGF AHM in Linköping on October 30-31.


== Release

All the encessary commits are ported to 5.4 branch, see
    http://folk.uio.no/maikenp/pages/USIT/rm/revlists/5.4.0/

One commit still needs to be discussed with Aleksandr (32746). 

Proper testing is needed. A good start would be to (re)define a couple of tests and have a spreadsheet or some other system where their results can be registered.

Release timeline:

  • Deadline for inclusion of code: 05.09
  • Testing done: 12.09
  • Code freeze: 15.09
  • Release tagged: 18.09

Main features for ARC 5.4:

  1. Code adaption to OpenSSL 1.1.x specifically for distributions which build OpenSSL without deprecated functions.
  2. Fix for handling signing_policy files which come with Windows oriented editors. 
  3. Increase in data transfer performance mostly affecting chunked HTTP transfers 
  4. Remove use of Credential objects in DTR, instead using strings for credential attributes. May help with data staging performance
  5. Technology preview of Archery - The next generation Information Index Service for ARC. The Archery client plugin and ldap-monitor will be included in this round. The Archery-manage component will be released in ARC 6.
  6. Various smaller bugfixes and enhancements.

Ubuntu 11.10 builds started failing, and since it is not supported, it will be removed  from nightlies (and release notes).


== Bugs

No much changes, only one bug is fixed for the next release.

 

== A.O.B.

KnowARC and EMI mailing lists are discontiniued and domains shut down. An overview of existing lists can be found at https://mail.nordugrid.org/mailman/listinfo (cern-committee seems to be misplaced though).

No news about the technical meeting in Ljubljana. Location/dates of the next NG conference are yet to be confirmed (in Munich).
